Since i moved last month to New York, one of the first things i did was buying a new high definition TV set. The best deal out there at the time was the Samsung LN46A550, a fantastic 46” LCD 1080p for as little as $1200.
“Calibration” is finding and using the optimum settings for all of your HDTV’s display controls. These settings include (but aren’t limited to) contrast, brightness, black Level, color Correction, audio settings, etc. This is a completely subjective thing since some people prefer, for example, a vibrant bright display while others a more real like (also called “pro”) picture settings.
It took me a lot of experimentation to get the best overall use picture and audio settings for my Samsung LN46A550. Again, this is purely subjective, but i’m sure some of you will find my settings useful. Just be aware that this settings are for exclusively for HDMI input devices. I have tested them with my Xbox 360, Western Digital HD media player and Blu-ray player.
AFAIK, the following settings are compatible with all Samsung LNXXA550, including: LN37A550, LN42A550, LN46A550, etc.
Picture Settings
If you are using an XBox 360, make sure the HDMI black level in the console settings is set to “Standard”.
Audio Settings
The audio for this set is atrocious by default. With this settings you’ll get a dramatic improvement.

Yo me compre con presupuesto ecuatoriano una de las ultimas panasonic 1080p pero de 37″
Tengo el xbox conectado por componente asi que estoy jugando a 1080i y por eso mis dvds corren a 480p, hasta que consiga un nuvo xbox tendre que quedar asi
En mis settings, puse en video “gaming” con algunas modificaciones, apagando todo lo extra por que no vi ningun cambio
en cambio, en sonido si voy a seguir tus consejos por que la verdad tengo problemas con el sonido, en tv normal suena bajo, en xbox suena altisimo, en rockband no se esucha nada, ya estoy cabreado jajaja
